November 2016 - Martha Hebert, Sweet Southern Ladies

Martha Hebert, co-owner of Sweet Southern Ladies Designer Cakes, was born and raised on her grandfather’s 100-acre sugar cane farm on the outskirts of St. Martinville. Having raised her children and retired, she converted the old barn house on the farm into a professional kitchen, and turned her love of baking into a business — and Sweet Southern Ladies was born in 2004. As a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics Education and earned another in Elementary Education.

Martha’s spirituality and deep faith in God has always been the corner stone of her life, which combined with a passion for baking and sugar-art, has contributed to the success of Sweet Southern Ladies Designer Cakes. In 2008, she and co-owner (and sister!) Becky Guidry, self-published and edited their first book, Sweet Treasures. Together, they have conducted cake design and construction courses across the nation and internationally, produced a collection of educational DVDs and more, and have been published in many magazines.

Martha and Becky appeared on TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off in both seasons, taking the win in the first season for $10,000.
