July 2025 - Roxana Usner - Urban Planner

Roxana Usner, a native of Lafayette with a degree in architecture from UL Lafayette, spent most of her career in California’s Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area providing planning and construction management services for high tech, bio tech, healthcare and educational institutions. 

In 2011, Roxana joined Lafayette Consolidated Government as an Urban Planner in the Community Development and Planning Department. Her work supporting the Lafayette Historic Preservation Commission facilitates historic designations, and promotes education and conservation efforts. Her mission to educate the public about the importance of historic buildings has set Lafayette apart as a destination for both tourists and companies seeking better opportunities for business.

Currently, her focus has been toward creating a more technically-professional and hands-on historic preservation office, and offering assistance to historic property owners. Her ultimate goal is to curtail the destruction of our buildings with cultural significance. Roxana provides workshops on the technical aspects of the appropriate maintenance and upgrades to historic buildings. She also advises building owners on the various historic rehabilitation tax incentives offered for rehabilitation and maintenance work. 

Roxana has worked to achieve Certified Local Government status for Lafayette, allowing access to Federal historic preservation grants. She has conducted tireless research into Lafayette’s untold history. Her current research centers on the stories of the people who have developed and lived in the early neighborhoods surrounding Lafayette’s Downtown, especially the underrepresented families in Lafayette. Her architectural passion is the conservation of Lafayette’s vintage mid-century modern buildings.
