January 2026 - Phyllis Lear - Artist, Art Educator

In 2005, Phyllis Lear received the Visual Artist Fellowship from the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States. Private collectors from Toronto to New Orleans exhibit her art in their homes and businesses. 

She holds Masters Degrees in various Art Disciplines; from Northwestern State University Louisiana in Studio Art, from LSU in Art History, and from Louisiana Tech in Fine Arts, as well as a Type A Masters +30 Teaching License from the State of Louisiana.

Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, Lear attended UL Lafayette where she earned her undergraduate degree in Art and Industrial Arts Education. She has taught visual arts and art history her entire adult life to all ages from kindergarten level, elementary, middle, high school and college level students. Lear is a member of the Louisiana Archaeological Society, Preservationists of St. Landry, Bare Walls/Basin Arts, and Contemporary Fiber Artists of Louisiana.

This past year, her work was exhibited at The Floyd County Carnegie Library's Cultural Arts Center of New Albany, Illinois, at Basin Arts, and the ACA in Lafayette, LA, and is currently exhibited at her online shop p.lear.
