Currently, Mrs. Denise Richard Lanclos is a Chairperson for the Azalea Trail Committee.
She is a retired professional Accountant and Banker and active Notary, serving on three
beautification organizations: Scenic Lafayette, Keep Lafayette Beautiful and Preservation
Alliance of Lafayette.
A native of Lafayette, she grew up in Whittington Park and resides there today, in the urban
core of our city. She enjoys the beauty of the azalea trail and participated in the Jaycee’s
Annual Azalea Trail Run in the 1990’s.
She enjoys “Giving Back” to Lafayette in her work for beautification hoping to leave a legacy
example for future generations.
Our official city flower is the Southern Indica Lavender Formosa Azalea, named “The General
Lafayette” after the Marquis de Lafayette. She hopes to further promote the urban core of
Lafayette’s Historic Azalea with Historic Properties.
The trail has year round seasonal beauty of Camellias, Magnolias, Crape Myrtles and the
“Flower Power” show of Azaleas. Our Azaleas are a sign of springtime in the deep south.
