2023 March - Career Achievement - Dr. Mary Neiheisel

Dr. Mary Neiheisel, a valued and energetic force in the world of health care entering her 57th year teaching at the University of Louisiana Lafayette College of Nursing, continues serving as a family nurse practitioner at Faith House of Acadiana, a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. Her tireless dedication to the Lafayette community and her profession also includes serving as editor of Fellow of American Association of Nurse Practitioners Quarterly Publication, "FAANP Forum."

Over the years, Dr. Neiheisel (pronounced NIGH-high-zul) has provided services to many boards in our community such as the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Camp Bon Coeur, Performing Arts Society of Acadiana, Family Violence Intervention Program, the Junior League Advisory Board, the Lafayette Public Library Foundation, the League of Women Voters, Rotary Club of Lafayette, United Way, March of Dimes, American Heart Association, and others

During the span of her career, she has been recognized with honors for her professional accomplishments, civic involvement, and philanthropic contributions. Dr. Neiheisel was named Member Emeritus of the Acadiana Center of the Arts Board of Directors, and was honored at the 2022 Pelican Ball. She was awarded the Lafayette Civic Cup in 2017, recognized as a Friend of The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties in 2009, and received the Zonta Club of Lafayette "Women of Achievement Award" in 2008. Last year, The Dr. Mary B. Neiheisel Graduate Nurse Practitioner Scholarship was named and endowed by one of Dr. Neiheisel's former students.

A Texas native (San Antonio and Stockdale), Dr. Neiheisel's education includes several undergraduate, post-graduate, and certification degrees from major universities and teaching hospitals in Texas, Colorado, Kentucky and Louisiana.
